AION AT THE PARA/METRO LAB – COMPUTATIONAL DESIGN TO FABRICATION WORKSHOP.

Salvo Pappalardo (AION architecture) has been invited to run a workshop with Andrea Graziano (Co-de-iT) within the “Para/Metro Lab – laboratorio diffuso per la promozione di processi e strumenti innovativi di produzione del progetto” promoted and organized by the Syracuse OAPPC with the scientific and technical support of Co-de-iT. The workshop (02/06 July 2019 | 15/19 October 2019) will focus on parametric design applied to set up data-driven geometries in order to develop envelope systems and eventually to extract and organize information relevant to the manufacturing process.

AION AT THE CIVIL ENGINEERING AND ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT, UNIVERSITY OF CATANIA

Salvo Pappalardo will give a cycle of lecture entitled “Introduzione alla modellazione tridimensionale algoritmica e alla prototipazione rapida”. The lectures will take place on November, 29th and December 1st, 4th and 6th at the Civil Engineering and Architecture Department, University of Catania.

TECNOLOGÍAS DEL LADRILLO: DISPOSITIVOS, APAREJOS, ORGANIZACIONES

Tecnologías del Ladrillo: Dispositivos, Aparejos, Organizaciones edited by Ciro Najle and Francisco Cadau presents a series of investigations developed in the Architecture and Technology Program of the School of Architecture and Urban Studies, Torcuato di Tella University in Buenos Aires. The publication presents Domes of Revolution project developed AION together by professors Francisco Cadau, Victoria Della Chiesa with the Students from the Course “Modelos Sistematicamente Diferenciados”.

PARAMETRIC FIELDS 5.0 – GRASSHOPPER + GH FOR FABRICATION

The workshop, organized by Salvo Pappalardo (AION architecture) and Andrea Graziano (Co-de-iT), focuses on the development and management of relationships between information and geometry for condition-specific building envelope systems. Through visual scripting in Grasshopper (generative modeling plug-in for Rhinoceros) participants will learn how to build parametric data structures (from basic lists to complex data trees) and how to set up data-driven geometries in order to develop envelope systems and eventually to extract and organize information relevant to the manufacturing process. THE GULIT PROJECT WINS THE URBAN RESILIENCE CHALLENGE

We are pleased to announce that Andrea Di Stefano is co-winner of Amplify’s Urban Resilience Challenge. The winning proposal, developed together with M. Assefa, J. Brazil, E. Cabay, R. Machado, J. Mauser and N. Waissbluth, was selected for its “potential to improve the resilience of urban slum communities”.
The Gulit Project aims at reducing waste and improving profits and comfort for market vendors in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, using clay technology of passively-cooled food-storage systems for construction of market stalls.
The project will be supported by IDEO.orgOpenIDEO, the UK Department for International Developmentand the Global Resilience Partnership. The sponsors will also provide technical assistance to bring the idea to life.

AION AT THE ETHIOPIAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTURE, ADDIS ABABA

Andrea Di Stefano will present the work of AION at the Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Development in Addis Ababa on Friday January 8th, 2016 at 5:30 PM, A-Hall, EiABC.

THE GULIT PAVILION – EXHIBITION OPENING

The Gulit Pavilion, result of Construction Workshop in Urban clay cooling techniques, was inaugurated on January, 8th at 3:00 PM, in the EiABC LIDETA CAMPUS in Addis Ababa.

CLAY COOLING WORKSHOP – ETHIOPIAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTURE, ADDIS ABABA

Andrea Di Stefano will run a workshop with Edouard Cabay, Julia Mauser and Melat Assefa at the Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia.
As part of the Gulit Pavilion Research, the workshop aim is to improve local market areas (Gulits) through architectural interventions. We will strengthen the infrastructure for food vendors by using clay and its thermal properties in order to improve environmental comfort through the construction of passively cooled storage systems for market stands.
The workshop will take place at the Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Development in Addis Ababa, from 29/12/2015 to 10/01/2016.

PAPER DESIGN

Paper Design edited by A. Acocella and published by Altralinea Edizioni is now in the bookshops. The publication presents the Origami Pavilion project developed by Prof. Luigi Alini and AION together with the II Year Students from the Faculty of Architecture in Siracusa.

PARAMETRIC FIELDS 3.0 – GRASSHOPPER + GH FOR 3DCNC

The workshop, organized by Salvo Pappalardo (AION architecture) and Andrea Graziano (Co-de-iT), focuses on the development and management of relationships between information and geometry for condition-specific building envelope systems. Through visual scripting in Grasshopper (generative modeling plug-in for Rhinoceros) participants will learn how to build parametric data structures (from basic lists to complex data trees) and how to set up data-driven geometries in order to develop envelope systems and eventually to extract and organize information relevant to the manufacturing process. NOMINATION FOR IAKOV CHERNIKHOV PRIZE 2014

It is our pleasure to inform you that we have been nominated for the Iakov Chernikhov Prize 2014. “The Iakov Chernikhov Prize is awarded every two years to young masters of contemporary architecture for the best architectural concept (designs, buildings, experimental works, architectural fantasies, sketches). The idea should combine an innovative response to our time and simultaneously offer a professional challenge to the future.” For more information, please visit the Chernikhov Foundation website.

The results will be announced this Spring.

AION IN A CONFERENCE AT THE SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE, UNIVERSITY TORCUATO DI TELLA

Andrea Di Stefano and Aleksandra Jaeschke will present the work of Studio AION at the School of Architecture, University Di Tella in Buenos Aires:

ECO-MACHINES
Projects by Studio AION
Eco-machines are architectural effects of a systematic negotiation between material characteristics, structural forces, functional requirements, normative prescriptions, financial pressures, socio-political agendas, cultural tendencies and environmental dynamics.
Each of them is a device that generates the complex territory within which it functions. Each works as a spatial expression of a multiplicity of processes which define the relations between the environment and who inhabits it. Each, like any other extremely complex or stunningly simple machine, is a product of the desire to interact with its surroundings: an inevitably, yet powerfully, reductive operation on complexity that is orchestrated through few, carefully selected sensory channels.
