Infrastructures for coastal areas
Masterplan
Siracusa, Italy, 2001-2002

design team : Andrea di Stefano, Aleksandra Jaeschke with Francesco Minniti

Defining the concept of ‘intensive landscape’, environmental and urban dynamics are integrated in a unique system in order to implement a new sustainable infrastructural network for the city of Siracusa, Sicily.

As points of exchange between existing infrastructures and available urban facilities and attractions, the network nodes offer great potential for local developments and orient strategic programmatic choices. According to environmental and urban seasonal changes, activities and infrastructural functioning are time based and the network economy is fine tuned towards a greater performance of the entire urban system.
