Barrio Campo re-activates local agricultural tradition by creating an urban hub for experimental cultivations of local crops and endangered endemic species and provides a new residential area. An urban void becomes an active hub which brings the countryside into town and extends the urban centre towards its rural edges. Rainwater collection and wastewater treatment help nourish the fields and invigorate green recreational spaces for new dwellers. A series of interlocking functional blocks form independent single-family houses which aggregate into a dense neighbourhood organised to assure a high level of privacy. Barrio Campo puts in place a complex system of environmental strategies to create a healthy living environment while promoting biodiversity. Passive cooling takes advantage of local trade winds. Wastewater treatment and rainwater collection help reduce use of desalinated water and become an opportunity for an agricultural hub to grow at the edge between La Geria and El Jabla regions.
