FAMILY CHAPEL
New construction, Melilli, Italy, 2007-2011

A solid block, hard as rock, rises from the ground. Within its hollows, it cradles the remnants of earthly life, while an armour makes it impenetrable. There is no way in for those who remain, yet there is a way out.
There are seven steps you must climb to reach the roof. After crossing the city of the dead, you reach the seventh level and detach from the ground to reconnect with the sky and the wonderful beauty of creation.

You see the mountain where he was born and the countryside where he was happy as a child.
Death is not celebrated, but life, that unique life that was and remains such for eternity.
In medieval cosmology, the Seventh Heaven was the highest and therefore closest to God, a place of bliss and supreme happiness.
